The entity sleeps. Every instrument confirms it. Every psychic sensitive on record disagrees.
Catalogued under designation CTHULHU, this entity represents the single highest-priority threat in active files. It has not moved since the Johansen encounter of 1925. It does not need to move. Its influence propagates through a mechanism no current model of physics can accommodate — a persistent, low-frequency psychic broadcast that saturates the dreams of susceptible individuals worldwide. The signal originates from a fixed point in the South Pacific. The entity is the signal.
Classification: Great Old One. High Priest of its kind, if the cult testimony is to be taken at face value. The Bureau takes it at face value.
The Legrasse Report

The first documented contact occurred on November 1, 1908, when Inspector John Raymond Legrasse of the New Orleans police led a raid on an unauthorized gathering in the cypress swamps south of the city. Twenty-two local and transient individuals were detained. The ceremony involved rhythmic chanting in no recognized language, animal sacrifice of considerable scale, and the veneration of a small carved idol — greenish-black stone, roughly six inches in height, depicting a creature of vaguely anthropoid outline but with an octopus-like head, rudimentary wings, and a posture of coiled anticipation.
Legrasse presented the idol at the 1908 meeting of the American Archaeological Society. Professor William Channing Webb of Princeton identified it as identical in material, subject, and craftsmanship to an idol recovered from a degenerate Esquimaux tribe in West Greenland — a tribe whose ceremonies bore no plausible connection to the Louisiana cultists. Two continents. Same stone. Same entity. Same chant: Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn.
The chant translates, loosely, to a statement of fact: in his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.
What the Sailors Found
On February 28, 1925, the crew of the schooner Emma — out of Auckland under the command of a Norwegian named Johansen — encountered a landmass at coordinates that had, until that morning, been open ocean. The risen portion of R'lyeh breached the surface for approximately six hours before subsiding. Johansen's account, corroborated by ship's log and the physical condition of the two surviving crew members, describes architecture that defied spatial reasoning, a door of impossible scale, and the emergence of the entity itself.
Johansen rammed it with the Alert. The vessel's prow struck the entity's head, which burst apart — and reconstituted. The head reformed as the ship passed through it, pulling itself together like fog filling a vacuum. Johansen survived. His second mate did not survive the subsequent weeks. Johansen himself died in 1926 under circumstances that remain, officially, unremarkable.
The entity returned to its resting position. The city sank. The ocean closed over it as though nothing had happened.
The Dream Signature
Between February 28 and April 2, 1925, psychiatric institutions across the globe reported a statistically impossible spike in admissions. Artists produced work of unprecedented disturbing content. Architects complained of spatial vertigo. Seismographs recorded low-frequency tremors with no identifiable geological source. The correlation was first noted by Professor George Gammell Angell of Brown University, who died before publishing his findings.
The pattern is consistent and repeatable. When R'lyeh shifts — even fractionally — the dream signature intensifies. Sensitive individuals report a vast underwater city, a sense of something waiting, and a sound they describe variously as chanting, breathing, or the grinding of tectonic plates. The signal does not attenuate with distance. A sensitive in Helsinki receives it with the same fidelity as one in Polynesia. This is not how signals behave. This is not a signal.
Why Omega
Threat classification Omega is reserved for entities whose active manifestation would constitute an extinction-level event with no viable containment or countermeasure protocol. Cthulhu holds this designation on three criteria: the psychic broadcast's global reach with no identified dampening mechanism, the demonstrated capacity for physical regeneration rendering conventional force irrelevant, and projected casualty modeling that places the first ꫀX̷̎͊꩜T̡͕͊Ủ͐̊O̯R͔͞S̡̮Y̧̱̐Ž̴A̡ within seventy-two hours of full emergence.
The entity does not need to wake to end the world. The dream signature is sufficient to degrade institutional coherence over a long enough timeline. Every year, the number of sensitives increases. Whether this represents an expansion of the broadcast's power or an erosion of whatever barrier has historically shielded human cognition remains an open question — and the answer matters less than the trend.
The entity sleeps. The trend does not.
Forget the scale. Forget the tentacles. Forget the impossible geometry of the risen city. The detail that sticks is the regeneration. Johansen drove a ship through its head and it pulled itself back together like it was remembering what shape it preferred. That's not durability. That's indifference. We are not a threat to this thing. We are not even an inconvenience. I keep a note on my desk that says "do not confuse silence for safety." I wrote it after finishing this file. I have not been able to take it down.
